SHÂN COTHI

Shân Cothi is a celebrated Welsh classical and music theatre soloist, as well as an accomplished actress and television and radio presenter. Initially a music teacher, her career took off after winning the prestigious Blue Riband at the National Eisteddfod of Wales, leading her to become a professional singer.

Shân gained widespread recognition when she was cast as Carlotta in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera in London’s West End. She later took on the role of Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd, performing alongside Sir Bryn Terfel at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod and stepping in for Zurich Opera in a last-minute performance.

She has also performed in large-scale productions, including portraying the mythical figure Ceridwen in the spectacular Ar Waith Ar Daith finale at the Wales Millennium Centre. Her musical releases include the debut album Passione with the Welsh National Chamber Orchestra and Paradwys, which climbed the classical charts and led to a successful concert tour across Wales.

On Welsh television, Shân starred in the popular drama series Con Passionate and hosted a variety of programs, including Bro and Y Sipsiwn, showcasing her love for Welsh culture and landscapes. She also became known for her journey into competitive horse racing, featured in the documentary Cheltenham Cothi, and her climb of Mount Kilimanjaro in support of Velindre Cancer Centre and her charity, Amser Justin Time, raising awareness of pancreatic cancer.

Shân made history when she set a world record for the longest-distance duet, singing Calon Lân in a 7,000-mile link-up between Wales and Patagonia for BBC Music Day. She currently hosts the popular morning radio show Bore Cothi on BBC Radio Cymru.
