Mezzo Soprano Angharad Lyddon’s recent highlights include Third Lady in The Magic Flute at the Nevill Holt Festival, Flosshilde in Gotterdammerung at the Royal Festival Hall with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Vladimir Jurowski. her company debut as Branwen in Welsh National Opera’s Blaze of Glory, Irene in Tamerlano for The Grange Festival, Waltraute for Grimeborn Festival’s Götterdämmerung, Lola in Cavalleria Rusticana and Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro both for West Green House Opera’s and Handel’s Messiah at the Royal Albert Hall. 24/25 highlights include a return to Welsh National Opera as Maddalena (cover) Rigoletto, Mendelssohn’s Elijah with the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra alongside Sir Bryn Terfel and Mary The Flying Dutchman for Opera Holland Park.
Angharad made her professional debut for English National Opera in as Kate Pirates of Penzance and she sang the role of Daughter of Akhnaten in Phelim McDermott’s Olivier Award-winning production, Akhnaten. Other roles for ENO include cover Hermia A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Perdita The Winter’s Tale.
Angharad represented Wales in the 2019 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition and was a finalist in the Song Prize competition. Following this she was invited to give a recital alongside pianist Llŷr Williams at the Wigmore Hall. She is a Samling Artist and former Jerwood Young Artist for Glyndebourne; highlights at the Festival include Woodpecker The Cunning Little Vixen and cover Hermia A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Other operatic roles include Hippolyta A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Musico Manon Lescaut and Julia Bertram Mansfield Park for The Grange Festival, Olga Eugene Onegin for West Green House Opera and Buxton International Festival, Flosshilde Das Rheingold for Grimeborn Festival, Hansel in Iford Arts’ 2018 Education Project, ‘Gingerbread’, based on Humperdink’s Hansel and Gretel, Suzuki Madam Butterfly for Salon Opera, Cherubino The Marriage of Figaro for Clonter Opera and Dritte Dame Die Zauberflöte at the Åbo Svenska Theater in Finland.
Concert highlights include performing as guest artist in ‘An Evening with Sir Bryn Terfel’ and the BBC Concert Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall, Stravinsky's The Faun and the Shepherdess and Requiem Canticles with Vladimir Jurowski and the London Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall, Bach Cantatas with Sir John Eliot Gardiner and Handel’s Messiah at the Royal Albert Hall. Other recent concert performances include a recital with pianist Jâms Coleman at the Fishguard and West Wales Music Festival, Rossweisse in London Opera Company’s concert performance of Die Walküre, recitals at St David’s Hall, Cardiff and the Cowbridge Music Festival, the roles of Marta and Pantalis in a concert performance of Boito's Mefistofele for the Chelsea Opera Group at the Southbank Centre and a concert celebrating the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth with the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera and BBC National Orchestra of Wales and BBC NOW’s St David’s Day concert.
Angharad is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music; her roles for Royal Academy Opera included Lucretia The Rape of Lucretia, Baba the Turk The Rake's Progress, Zita Gianni Schicchi and Filipyevna Eugene Onegin.
