This season Welsh tenor Ryan Vaughan Davies returns to Welsh National Opera to sing Captain/ Crook in Candide and cover the title role, he also makes his role debut as Lensky in Eugene Onegin at The Grange Festival and will appear in the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Gala with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. Other future plans include his debut for Wexford Festival Opera.
Ryan was a member of the Jette Parker Artist Programme at the Royal Ballet & Opera from 2023 – 2025. His roles for the Royal Ballet & Opera include Borsa (Rigoletto), Remendado (Carmen), Nathanael (Les contes d’Hoffmann) and Ruiz (Il trovatore).
Highlights elsewhere include Tom Rakewell (The Rake’s Progress) for Theater Orchester Biel Solothurn, Beppe (Pagliacci) for Iford Arts and Prunier (La rondine) for If Opera and cover Tamino (Die Zauberflöte) for Welsh National Opera. On the concert platform he has appeared as the Lover in Il Tabarro with the Hallé Orchestra at the BBC Proms, and alongside the Ulster Orchestra in performances of Handel’s Messiah. He has previously appeared at the Southbank Centre, Grieghallen Bergen and in the US with the North American Festival of Wales.
Ryan is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music Opera School, Royal College of Music and Royal Northern College of Music where he is an Associate Artist. His roles at RAM included and Rinuccio (Gianni Schicchi), Torquemada (L’heure Espagnole), Der Tenor (Ariadne aufNaxos) and Interrogator (WITCH). In 2024 he was the winner of the Welsh Singers Competition.
