Gianluca Marcianò, praised by The Sunday Times for his “invariably theatrical and idiomatic conducting,” is an internationally renowned conductor. He serves as Principal Conductor of the Orchestra della Magna Grecia in Taranto and Matera (Italy), Principal Guest Conductor of the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra, and Artistic Director of the Al Bustan Festival in Lebanon.
Highlights of the 2025/26 season include conducting Sir Bryn Terfel in Shanghai and Monte-Carlo, returns to the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb and Grange Park Opera (The Barber of Seville), as well as further symphonic projects across Europe.
In 2024/25, Marcianò returned to Grange Park Opera (Simon Boccanegra) and to Teatro Lirico di Cagliari (Aida), and conducted symphonic concerts across Europe.
He has appeared with major opera houses and international festivals including the English National Opera, Teatro de la Maestranza, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Guangzhou Opera House, Shanghai Art Festival, and the Ljubljana Festival. He has collaborated with celebrated artists such as Sir Bryn Terfel, Elīna Garanča, Sumi Jo, Joseph Calleja, and Gautier Capuçon, and led performances with orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Hallé Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, Filarmonica Toscanini, and the Moscow City Russian Philharmonic.
Marcianò served as Music Director of the State Opera of Tbilisi (2011–14) and Principal Conductor of the Serbian National Theatre in Novi Sad (2017–19). He is the founder of the Lerici Music Festival—formerly Suoni dal Golfo—celebrating music in his hometown overlooking the Gulf of Poets. He was awarded honorary citizenship of Lerici in 2017 and the Pavlova Award in 2018.
His repertoire spans iconic operas such as La traviata, Tosca, Un ballo in maschera, Rigoletto, Madama Butterfly, and Aida, with recent productions at Teatro de la Maestranza (Tosca, Turandot), Palma de Mallorca (La forza del destino), and Oviedo (Aida).
Marcianò’s discography includes the acclaimed album Momento Immobile with soprano Venera Gimadieva and the Hallé Orchestra. He is an Ambassador for Opera for Peace and holds a degree in Political Science from the University of Pisa.
