“A beautiful, glorious voice” (Seen and Heard International) - Swiss baritone Felix Gygli won the Kathleen Ferrier Awards 2023, the Lied Prize of the Queen Sonja Competition 2024 and was the inaugural winner of the Eastbourne International Singing Competition 2024. This season he steps in to sing the title role in Elijah at Zürich Opera House conducted by Gianandrea Noseda and directed by Andreas Homoki. Following this he returns to the Verbier Festival for Spinelloccio/ Notaio in Gianni Schicchi.
Highlights next season include a house and role debut as Schaunard in La bohéme for Theater St. Gallen, a return to Zürich Opera House for Graf Dominik in Arabella and St Matthew’s Passion with Gli Angeli Genève.
Felix is a currently in his final year at the International Opera Studio of the Zürich Opera House. Roles have included Il Barone di Trombonok in Il viaggio a Reims, Vier brabantische Edle in Lohengrin and most notably Phileas Fogg in the world premiere of Around the World in 80 Days by Jonathan Dove.
He was a member of the Atelier Lyrique of the Verbier Festival 2023, where he was awarded the Prix Thierry Mermod for the most promising singer. In January 2024, he participated in the Carnegie Hall SongStudio under the patronage of Renée Fleming.
Felix is a passionate Lieder singer and regularly performs in recitals in the UK, France, and Switzerland with pianists JongSun Woo and Tomasz Domanski. He made his US debut performing Schubert's Winterreise with pianist Pierre-Nicolas Colombat at the Boston Text and Tone Festival.
Felix is a Samling Artist and was a National Opera Studio Young Artist 2022/23. He received his training at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis.
